Persephone 🍎

As with many women in ancient myths the story of Persephone has been largely altered to demonise her - her name which once meant the maiden became destroy/slay and she was often depicted as a dark goddess of the underworld. However, if we look a little closer she is a potent archetype for those who have been hurt (her abduction) but her grief and her enforced knowledge of the underworld is also what gives the world seasons. She is able to go from below - above and this movement causes the seasons to begin. This reminds us that all that we traverse, the journeys we make into and through pain bring with them fresh starts and deepend perspectives - they bring a variety that is wisdom and necessary for greater aspects of knowing (other lifeforms).

She is also an excellent emblem for those who wish to meet their shadow/ have the courage to meet spaces which have been previously walled off by pain. Persephone reminds us that in the darkest of places there is often the exact medicine we need.
